Welcome to the SNIPs Website

What is a SNIP?
SNIP stands for Standard Names for Imaging Procedures. A SNIP corresponds to a unique diagnostic imaging performable (procedure) that can be ordered, scheduled, performed, interpreted, and billed for. SNIPs are made up of attributes such as modality, body region, anatomy, and so on. The attributes can be thought of as columns in a spreadsheet or variables. They are unique, limited in number, describe distinct things about a SNIP, and have instance data.
Use Search by Indication to locate protocols based on specific indication criteria. For best results narrow sign/symptom/disease searches by combining them with an anatomic area such as "ankle mass" or tumor types by combining them with a body area, as in "brain tumor", and so on. Some abbreviations may not return expected results so try spelling out the terms instead. Also, consider removing adjectives and modifiers to expand search results, for example, instead of "necrotising pancreatitis", try just "pancreatitis."
Use Performables to locate protocols directly. Protocols are arranged in the form of a drop-down tree which is organized by modality and body area. You can also locate specific protocols by the searching the protocol title.
